Susan believes that "comfort, beauty and personal expression in one's home environment is essential to an individual's happiness" and she designs with this philosophy in mind. Asked about her design style, she says "I don't have a particular style. I help the client realize what they like and then help them tailor the design to the way they live".

When designing a room, Susan considers function as well as appearance. "I think that aesthetics are very important", she says, "but not at the expense of practicality and function". More important, she thinks, is a cohesive design that allows each room to blend seamlessly into the rest of the house. This is especially important when designing a kitchen, she adds.

Susan loves mixing materials in her designs and adding daring accents such as colorful walls. A mosaic design set in limestone on the side of a tub, bamboo floors set into a slate border and a unique chunky countertop edge - all are creative examples of her work. She delights in coming up with the perfect solution to an unusual problem and is happiest when a client wants something different.

"No money is better spent than what is laid our for domestic satisfaction." - Samuel Johnson
