Located in an historic building with a storied past, this modern concrete apartment is one of 18 renovated luxury lofts. My clients wanted the standard developer grade kitchen and bath on the main floor of this loft condominium replaced to better reflect their needs and lifestyle. And the open plan area needed to better convey a unique expression of their personal taste, while also imparting a cozier feel. The central, wire staircase was my first big challenge. Colour was the simple, yet dramatic, answer here, as well as throughout the area. Even the fireplace glows with brightly coloured glass that burns. What were once bare, and boring, high white walls, are now painted in shades inspired by the owners' dramatic and equally colourful artwork. Colour works to delineates space, making a big room feel like several smaller, more inviting rooms.
